Description of modification

Heli-One offers Flight Data monitoring installation for helicopters. The system (FDM) uses a Solid State Quick Access Recorder (SSQAR) for recording flight data in parallel with the existing Flight Data Recorder. The data is directly recorded onto a removable PCMCIA card for easy access after each flight. The data can be used in a company database for analysis of trends and correction to procedures. The main interface with existing data stream is via the Harvard Bi-phase (ARINC 717) serial data line being output by the Flight Data Recorder for verification purposes. The safety of this recording
has already been assessed in other projects. Any short or disturbance
cannot affect either the recorded signal in the Flight Data Recorder or flight operations. The design may be adapted to other aircraft types upon request.
