Heli-One Develops Repair Capability for Sikorsky S-92 Air Inlet

March 23, 2016 – Delta, Canada – Heli-One, the world's largest independent provider of helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, announced today it has developed repair capability for the Sikorsky S-92 air inlet.

The air inlet was identified as a top contributor to aircraft on ground (AOG) events for the S-92 aircraft.  The component was found to have inconsistent failure times, long external repair turnaround time (TAT) and high replacement cost which increase the frequency and length of aircraft downtime. This new repair capability allows Heli-One to offer operators repairs with TATs reduced by more than a month and at nearly half the cost.

Development of this proprietary repair included a customized test bench, tooling, and power supply. This testing capability allows technicians to maintain control over the repair process and to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in-house which contributes to the low TAT. This repair represents a dramatic cost and time improvement over external repair alternatives or replacement. With the introduction of this new capability, Heli-One has increased its inventory of service-ready air inlets available for immediate exchange, further minimizing downtime.

“This new repair capability for the S-92 air inlet is a reflection of our team’s dedication to innovation, improving efficiency, and identifying business solutions as an MRO leader. Our Avionics, Structures, and Engineering departments have gone above and beyond to develop a cost-effective solution to address a significant challenge for S-92 operators,” said Anthony DiNota, President, Heli-One. “We can now enable customers to return the S-92 Air Inlet to service in an extremely expedient manner and at a reduced cost.”
